Done pre painted Mastergrade Rx-78-2 ver 3.0 build

When growing up as a kid in Calgary all i ever heard about was how great Gundam wing was from the other kids. At the time i never saw Gundam wing. What i did have was the original subbed Gundam movies. As such the old Rx-78-2 has a lot of nostalgia value for me.

The only other RX-78-2 kit i own is the Ver. Ka MG. And while i do like the Hajime Katoki redesign of the RX-78-2, that kit was made in 2002. The engineering in the new Ver. 3.0 shows just how far the technology has come since then. The complete inner frame allows the kit to pull off some amazing action poses. Also part of the outer frame move out of the way giving some neat logistics as to how the machine actually works.(Despite movable frame not being developed until U.C 0087 in the story cannon.)  However thanks to this level of possibility there are a lot of tiny fiddly parts that can lead to frustration. (Looking at you elbows)  Also the hands on this kit are a bit disproportional to the arms. In life they do not look as bad as these images make it look but they are still a bit awkward.

DUDE Look how big my Hand is!

Unlike other MGs that i have the hands are pakaged as one part that needs to be carefully removed from the sprue and bent carefully into place. This for me was terrifying as i was constantly afraid i would break something. Also the by being in effect one part it was hand to sand down each finger individual to remove the remaining excesses plastic. After doing the posse with the bazooka i have found the ballpoint connected to the right hand to be very loose.  I hope that this will be corrected by painting the hands latter on.

The look of this kit dispute the hands is awe inspiring the use of many different tones of plastic give the model a high level of detail even without paint. There is also very subtle panel lines on some parts that add detail without going overboard.

 Where is the super Napalm?
For accessories the kit comes with a Beam rifle, Hyper Bazooka, Beam sabers and shield. The weapons all fit nicely into the hands due to a small clip system that plugs into the hands allowing for a firm grip. The shield however dangles loosely from the arm, resulting in me having to fiddle with it to keep it from falling off during posing. All the accessories can fit onto storage slots on the back of the model when not in use.

Here is the core fighter, witch serves as the cockpit of the suit when folded up. Its nice and slim and has a nice profile. Thankfully i will be able to display the fighter along side the Gundam as the kit provides a fax cockpit to be used instead. The extra cockpit also has a slot for an led light so that the clear plastic in the main camera of the Mobile suit can have a light effect.

Over all i quite like this kit as it looks good with out any need for paint. However i found my self annoyed with how fiddly a lot of the construction was. Due to this i will wait till i have more sufficient experience with painting gunpla before i attempt to deconstruct this kit for painting.  In the meanwhile i will continue to work on painting my Master grade Rx-78-2 Ver Ka and will begin the test fitting of the XXXG-01W Wing Gundam.
